Artist Statement
I love to create… I need to create. I don’t know what I’d do without art.
Art gets me through the day. Through art I can make my wild imaginings a reality. I can express myself through hue and form in ways that my words can not. Art makes my world a better place.
My creative approach—no matter the medium—is to find links between shapes, colors, and ideas. I approach each work as a creative challenge. An idea forms and I go to work devising the best process to make the concept a reality. More often than not, my work develops from an admiration of the qualities or form of seemingly innocuous objects. Road signs, diamond dust, clockworks, x-ray light boxes, and a multitude of other objects and materials weave through my artwork. Using a thing for purposes other than those originally intended, is one of my favorite ways to challenge myself creatively.
For me, I have more ideas than I will ever have time to create. While I’m here, I might as well share as many of my imaginings as possible, because as they say “you can’t take it with you”. I think that cliché is as great way to look at creativity, because an idea that isn’t shared is one less mark we will leave behind.
